The 1” black is the same as the Celeste stick, but without the rubber covering.  The 1” phenolic core with a small brass insert produces a clean, clear sound, with a slightly brighter sound with more body than the 1” clear.  Perfect for excerpts in Sorcerers or any passage requiring a lighter, clearer sound than your general rattan bell mallet.
